About the team


The Programs Department at Jacaranda Health drives the implementation of our flagship solutions - PROMPTS and MENTORS. The department works hand-in-hand with county governments, health facilities, and community partners to ensure smooth program delivery and scale-up.


Within this department, the Service Delivery Unitfocuses on day-to-day mentorship activities, provider coaching, and digital health adoption at the facility level. Program Officers are the backbone of this work coordinating with county teams, supporting frontline mentors, and ensuring that data and insights from PROMPTS and MENTORS program is used to strengthen maternal and newborn health outcomes.


About the role


The Program Officer will work in the Programs department of Jacaranda Health, focusing on the programmatic implementation of our affordable and scalable PROMPTS solution and MENTORS program. PROMPTS is an AI-enabled SMS messaging service for mothers, and MENTORS is a facility-based training program that equips frontline service providers with lifesaving EmONC skills and knowledge. 


The individual will work closely with county teams and the wider Jacaranda Health team to ensure the EmONC Mentorship and PROMPTS program runs smoothly and efficiently in the allocated county. In Health Systems Strengthening,  the program officer will additionally support the implementation of identified health system activities as per the project.


Location: Kilifi.

Reports to: Senior Regional Program Coordinator.

Terms of Engagement: One year contract, renewable. 

Start Date: March 2026.


What You’ll Do:


Joint Program Activities (Cross-Cutting)

  • Share timely field updates with the Senior Regional Program Coordinator, focusing on challenges, opportunities, and basic recommendations based on facility-level observations.

  • Support county-led trainings, review meetings, or joint program activities whenever assigned.

  • Assist with mobilization, coordination, and documentation during joint county or facility engagements.

  • Perform any other program-related duties assigned by the supervisor.

PROMPTS (All PROMPTS-Related Activities Only)

  • Sensitize health providers and in-facility mentors on PROMPTS during mentorship meetings or facility visits.

  • Coordinate with the PROMPTS team by inviting them to relevant trainings and facility engagements when required.

  • Promote PROMPTS enrollment and data use by demonstrating how the SMS platform supports maternal and neonatal health.

  • Support basic follow-up with facilities on consenting progress, data quality, and use of PROMPTS feedback reports.

MENTORS (Core Mentorship Responsibilities)

  • Support in-facility mentors to complete and submit baseline, midline, and endline data accurately and on time.

  • Provide basic technical support for DELTA use, CMEs, simulation drills, and delivery debriefs.

  • Conduct routine facility visits and follow-up calls to track progress of mentorship activities.

  • Assist in organizing monthly mentorship meetings and documenting key action points.

  • Participate in logistics and facilitation support for EmONC Skills and Mentorship trainings.

  • Prepare simple weekly and monthly field activity updates for accountability and planning.

  • Identify facility-level gaps (documentation issues, stock-outs, low activity completion) and escalate to the supervisor.

  • Support implementation of field-level improvement initiatives introduced through mentorship.

Health Systems Strengthening Activities

  • Support and maintain strong relationships with County, Sub-County, and Health Facility teams to facilitate mentorship uptake and smooth program implementation.

  • Strengthen provider capacity to deliver high-quality EmONC services through continuous follow-up, coaching, and skill reinforcement.

  • Support counties to use mentorship data, facility insights, digital tools), and reporting dashboards to inform clinical decision-making and drive quality improvement initiatives.


Who you are:


What You Bring

  • Diploma or Degree in Nursing/Clinical Medicine.

  • 4+ years of experience in implementing maternal and newborn health programs within the public health system.

  • Experience in Public Health programs experience and/or EmONC knowledge & skills will be an added advantage.
